If you haven’t seen Hancock, make sure you go see it. It was a bit off the wall at times but I thought it was a great movie. It even has the ill Miami connection. But yeah, there’s a reason why Will Smith makes a ton of money and this movie is no shortfall on why Hollywood invests great amounts on being associated with him. Check out a couple production stills from the movie below…

Lately, I’ve been getting frustrated with alot of the hip-hop that’s being put out. So I couldn’t help but to find myself exploring with other types of music. A couple weeks ago I think I heard Howard Stern talk about this song that’s causing controversy because its about girls kissing girls and lesbians are getting mad because they think it makes “lesbian-ism” seem like a social thing, err, like an experiment to have fun. Well, it turned out, Katy Perry was the artist Howard was talking about and since I heard the song “I Kissed A Girl”…I’ve been hooked. Its definitely not hip-hop. Its probably so far away from hip-hop that its not even funny. But you know, its different, its fun and as much as I might catch flack for it from my hip-hop heads - its really some good ole’ “I don’t give a fuck about you” kind of music - with a touch of lovery dovey shit here and there. Plus, it don’t hurt that she’s easy on the eyes.
You can check out Katy Perry and the rest of the Vans Warped Tour line-up when they pass into town July 12th at Bicentennial Park. And below is a sample of another controversial track called “You’re So Gay”

We had to show a little love to Plies as he’s really holding his own right now.

Two “WTF” moments in a span of two days. First, we’re a month away from French created DoomsDay via man-made Blackhole. And now, Nokia shows off its most off the wall concept. I picked this up via the fly females over at MissBehave Magazine. Can we all say “frrrreeeeesssshhh”.
Since Esther Baxter doesn’t return my phonecalls, I think I’m pretty close to jumping ship to Team Kelly. The UK did right with her. I said dayum.

Well, amost 13 years and tons of polaroids later, Jonathan Mannion is one of hip-hop’s most integral gatekeepers via his large library of photographs that he has shot of almost every hip-hop artist imaginable. He has shot almost all of Jay-Z’s album covers and most recently shot the inside photographs of Lil Wayne’s The Carter III album artwork. Aside from being the go-to guy in hip-hop photography, Jonathan is set to soon release his first book entitled Signature featuring signed polaroids from some of his most memorable shoots. I’ve been looking forward to do an official post about Jonathan and his work because as some of you may know, I’m a photographer and this guy is really someone I’ve looked up to for years. I’ve been following his work since I was bascially in middle school. Check out his work at: www.jonathonmannion.com and peep the quote from his website in regards to the upcoming Signature project due out in December 2008:
Over the last 10 years, Jonathan Mannion’s catalogue of work has surpassed anything he could have ever imagined. From iconic behind the scenes shots of the late Notorious B.I.G to shooting all but two of hip hop megastar Jay Z’s 11 album covers, his lens has documented some of the greatest artists in hip hop, R&B and sport, capturing awe inspiring images and inviting you into the personal world of celebrities and personalities you might otherwise not have access to.
All you have to do really is pick up a hip-hop album cover of the last decade and see Mannion’s name. He is also credited as the photographer of choice for a multitude of magazines, from XXL to the Fader - his work is everywhere.
From starting out photographing the then unknown to the now major superstars, Jon has been able to capture images that have now become synonymous with these artists and the urban industry.
Its definitely been a long time coming and by defining images of the ever-evolving urban culture, its time for Mannion to document his work and publish a selection of some of his most famous photo shoots and highlight some of the proudest moments of his career.
In a book that will include an in depth photo documentary of a selection of powerful portraits captured on Polaroid film which the artists themselves signed, autographed and left personal messages; the book will also include commentary and exclusive one-off interviews conducted by acclaimed Rolling Stones journalist and author, Anthony Bozza.

Ya boy UB of 305 Hip Hop just caught up with DJ Khaled at WEDR. Khaled talks about the Plies situation (him not showing up to the video shoot) amoung other things. We Global coming in September! And look out for Lex from Lex Promotions who showed up in the cut as well.
He got skills. But he really really, really sounds like Eminem. Well, he’s signed to Steve Rifkin so I guess he must be doing something right. Looking forward to more stuff from him. Below is a video of him rhyming over Clipse’s “Mr. Me Too” instrumental.

Most of us grew up knowing it as the old Burdine’s building in Downtown Miami. Well obviously now Macy’s, and the Macy’s Of Florida Corporate Office at that, is considering vacating the historical building that we’ve all grown to love. Beef with the area and an apparent lack of commitment from the local government to live up to promises of pending restorations have angered Big Macy’s and they may end up packing and either moving down the street to Brickell or maybe even find a nice cozy and overlooked section of Downtown Miami to fill. Time will tell. This isn’t the first time Macy’s concerns were let out into the public. This discontent has been years in the making. Read below the full article from MiamiHerald.Com

DJ Irie fails to disappoint with his yearly Irie Weekend. It kicked off with a party at Cameo hosted by newlywed Timbaland and then followed by yesterday’s Celebrity Golf Tournament at the Miami Beach Golf Course off Alton Road. Sponsored by Simply Fit (www.drinksimplyfit.com), the event drew in various celebrities and tons of support for the receiving charity - Big Brothers & Big Sisters Of America. Many props to DJ Irie for holding it down and doing something positive. Photos By Dro for 305 Magazine. Photo above shows Alonzo Mourning (left) and DJ Irie (right)
